Blank

The ground begins to crumble
She kneels there
Her eyes peering over the side
Rock falls downward into a bottomless dark
She thinks of jumping
Thinks of feeling wind brush past her ears and through her hair
Thinks of what it would be like to fly

Looking forward the town is silent
Plain rectangles and squares of whites and grays
People walk by and look to her
Their eyes but two black dots
Their mouths sewn shut
They turn away
All of them

The rocks continue to fall
She stays calm
Still envisioning her fantasy
She can hear the rush of air
She turns around
A figure stands
At the edge
Arms out
Head back
They fly

A sudden envy covers her
But she is not brave
More people pass in front of her
Always moving on
A wind picks up
Her hair blown over her eyes
She does not move

A voice erupts
Clapping follows suit
A late one walks quietly in front of her
He turns and she gasps
His eyes are not that of the others
They are green
They are blue
They are brown
His mouth twists into a smile
It opens slightly
She gasps once again

She remembers
Looking down
He reaches out to her
She stares at his hand
It has color
Opposed to the ordinary pale
"Come with me"
He whispers
She stays perfectly still
'He can speak'
Her mind processes

"Please?"
He asks her once again
She stalls and looks down once more
She is about to fall
The ground is crumbling faster
More and more it falls
Her fantasies of flying lead to nightmares
More clapping
It travels through the wind

She takes a hold of his hand
She jumps to his side as the ground she was on
Collapses
He shifts to the other foot and lets
Her hand drop
She doesn't notice
She looks at him
The same eyes
The mouth
"Are you alright?"
The voice

'I'm fine'
She wants to say
She does not know how
Instead she just simply nods
"Can't you talk?"
She stares straight at him with a look of confusion
"But...you have eyes"
She is shocked

"Come with me?"
He asks
'OK'
She thinks
She nods her head
They walk forward to no particular destination
She is enthralled
She decides to look at him once more
He is different
She screams

His eyes black dots
His mouth sewn shut
And pale pasty skin
He turns to her
She tries to get away
"Let me go!"
She demands
He simply stares at her
He continues walking
Her hand in his
She screams more
His grip just gets tighter
